The Missions Team of Normandale Hylands UMC announces the establishment of the John Schevenius Mission Scholarship, available to NHUMC members who are participating in short-term domestic or foreign mission trips or projects.

John and his family served as missionaries to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in southern Africa under The United Methodist Church Board of Missions from 1955-1975. A civil engineer, John was involved in building homes, churches, schools and hospitals.  He was also a school principal and head of evangelism. After the war ended in Zimbabwe, he returned regularly to help rebuild missions.

John passed away on December 4, 2018.  This scholarship is sponsored by Normandale Hylands UMC in the hopes that others can also experience the rewards of service to God and others as John did.

The scholarship will administered by the Missions Team. To be eligible, you must be a member of Normandale Hylands UMC and submit your application 60 days before the trip. You will be asked to provide a written report to the Missions Team about your experience. Scholarships can provide up to one-third the cost of your trip.

Process:

The application is posted on the Missions page (link below). To apply, download and fill out the application in full and send to the Normandale Hylands UMC office, attn: Mission Team. A member of the team will contact you to confirm receipt and start the process. https://www.nhumc.net/missions/
