Shawls...made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify. Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles...
Janet Bristow, 1998
You are invited to help create prayer shawls for out friends who are in need of comfort. This may include individuals experiencing illness, loss, a transition period, or any other time where an awareness of God's peace and powerful love will bring comfort and solace.
Shawls may also be created to celebrate and bless a special event such as a marriage, birth, graduation...open yourself to the leading of the Holy Spirit as you contemplate who would be blessed by this ministry.
How to Get Started
Knitting and crocheting instructions for the shawl are provided. You may know someone to knit for or you may contact Sheree Johnson for names of individuals known to be going through a difficult time. When a shawl is completed, you may give it to the recipient yourself, or Doris Acton, Parish Nurse, will deliver it. Doris has gift bags and cards appropriate to the purpose of the shawl to enclose with the shawl.
Before beginning to knit, pray that you will be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as you work. In addition to praying for the recipient as you knit, you may want to pray over the skeins of yarn before you begin and the shawl when it is complete. Pray for the person who will be receiving the shawl and ask the Lord to bless, heal, anoint, and guide the person. Pray for family members and for all those who come into contact with the recipient.

SHOPkeepers A group of church members have organized this ministry to ensure that each day an individual comes to church and prays for the requests (ministries, joys, concerns, etc) submitted by the church family. Prayer requests can be placed in the prayer box located across the hall from the church office. To volunteer as a SHOPkeeper, contact the church office to be connected with the coordinator. |

PRAYER BUDDIES Prayer Buddies is a program that pairs our youth with an
adult prayer partner who will pray for him or her often.
Periodically the Hylander features Prayer Buddies articles that remind
partners to pray and give ideas for scriptures to discuss together or pray
about individually.
"Stand fast
in one spirit, with one mind striving together for faith of the
gospel." Philippians 1:27 The strength of
any group is found in its unity. The future of the church of Jesus Christ
and its effectiveness rests in the way our children stand with Jesus. Pray
that your prayer buddies will willingly stand in the gap with one another,
empowered by the Holy Spirit, focused on reflecting Christ-likeness. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
PRAYER BUDDIES NEEDED!
I am looking for several adult prayer buddies to buddy up with a youth. This entails praying for the youth. You can have one or more prayer buddies. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you for your interest!
